Coursework
Summer 2011
CEP 810: Teaching for Understanding with Technology
Instructors: J. Spicer and A. Keller
The Teaching for Understanding with Technology was the first course in the MAET Program. The key ideas learned in this class were how to improve teaching using technology. During this class web 2.0 tools were introduced and ways to implement those tools in the classroom were explained. Professional Learning Networks (PLN's) were also introduced as a base so we would be able to continue building on PLN's.
CEP 811: Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education
Instructors: J. Spicer and A. Keller
In "Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education" the main idea was to apply instructional principles and how to incorporate the instructional principles using technology. During this class we also learned how to create a webpage and blog, and use both as a way to show our audiance projects we have been working on.
CEP 812: Applying Educational Technology to Problems of Practice
Instructors: J. Spicer and A. Keller
In "Applying Educational Technology to Problems of Practice" we had to think of a concept that students struggled with in class, a "Wicked Problem." After thinking of a topic we had to design different instructional tools using technology to help students better understand the "Wicked Problem." Another key idea we incorporated in this assignment was TPACK combining Technology, Pedogogy and Content Knowledge and how these ideas work with one another to meet students learning needs.
Fall 2011
CEP 820: Teaching k12 Students Online
Instructors: L. Wolfe, S. Beauchamp-Hicks and M. Schira Hagerman
In "Teaching k12 Students Online" a course management system was designed and created where students can learn a unit virtually online. This course had us think of ways to use technology to collaborate, communicate and help students learn using a course management system. In the course management system we had to think of ways in which we wanted our students to participate in weekly discussions online, watch video tutorials, podcasts as well as submit assignments online.
CEP 806: Learning Science with Technology
Instructor: D. Wong
In "Learning Science with Technology" the focus was to incorporate technology into science lessons. We evaluated the effectiveness of an online experiment versus a face-to-face experiment. We also explored virtural science experiments, virtual field trips along with online resourses and how we could incorporate them into our classroom.
Spring 2012
TE 846: Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners
Instructor: J. Knight
In "Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners" we learned about different reading strategies to use in the classroom and to help struggling readers. Also during this course, we worked one-on-one with a case study student and did various reading and comprehension strategies to improve the students reading ability. A lengthy case study with academic history, evaluations, strategies and learning results were completed.
Summer 2012
CEP 800: Learning in Schools and Other Settings
Instructors: P. Mishra and L. Terry
In "Learning in Schools and Other Settings" we discussed different philosophies that take place in education and the way students minds work. We connected the philosophies and they way students minds work and how to develop more affective lessons to help us in our own classroom.
CEP 815: Technology and Leadership
Instructors: P. Mishra and L. Terry
In the "Technology and Leadership" course we focused on how students can change the way they learn based on using technology. We also covered the ways in which technology changes they way we teach in our classrooms.
CEP 822: Approaches to Educational Research
Instructors: P. Mishra and L. Terry
In "Approaches to Educational Research" we thought of an educational topic that is taught in our classroom that students struggle with. After choosing our topic we researched different ways we are going to use technology to help students learn more about the concept and topic. A proposal to attain the necessary equipment and a plan to implement the strategies was the culminating project.
Fall 2012
CEP 807: Capstone Portfolio Course
Instructors: M. Koehler, A. Zellner and J. Rosenberg
The "Capstone Portfolio Course" is where I put together all of the projects I have done in my Master's of Educational Technology (MAET) program at Michigan State University. This course had us creating a website where it showcased the last eighteen months of work done in the masters program. We were required to reflect on our goals, where we started with the program and how far we have come. The website I created is a synopsis of both academic and professional accomplishments. I am proud of what I have attained and the hard work I have put into it. I am where I want to be both academically and professionally.
